DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING

Some editors refer to this as “book doctoring” or "substantive editing." This type of edit usually happens once an author has completed the first draft of a manuscript or article. Anitra evaluates the text’s organization, style, clarity, and argument. Her critique involves a very detailed reading, with extensive comments and suggested rewrites and/or deletions. Anitra can also help address suggestions from your readers' reports and acquiring editor.

COPYEDITING

Anitra does a line-by-line edit of the manuscript for sentence structure, grammar, clarity of language and argument, and repetition. Anitra also formats endnotes and bibliography, by request. Anitra specializes in copyediting text written by non-native English speakers.

PROOFREADING

This is usually the final edit of the manuscript or galley. Anitra corrects grammar and spelling, in addition to identifying cosmetic or formatting problems.

DISSERTATION-TO-BOOK REVISION

In most cases, a dissertation must be heavily revised before it can be considered a book manuscript. This reshaping involves a developmental edit to target certain elements that are required in a dissertation, but don't work for a book. Anitra will help the author strengthen his or her own argument and voice, open the book up to a wider audience, and identify areas that need elaboration or trimming.

FEES

Anitra’s rates are competitive and negotiable. Payment is based on an hourly rate or a flat project fee, depending on the nature of the project. If you would like to pay for editing services through your research budget, Anitra is happy to work with your department or university accounts payable.
